Hal grew up in the Charlotte area and attended East Mecklenburg High School. He graduated from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing in 1985. He developed an acute understanding of national insurance carrier’s operations as an underwriter for a Zerox subsidiary, Crum & Foster.
Hal began his brokerage career in 1989 with Sedgwick, the 3rd largest brokerage firm in the world. Sedgwick was purchased by Marsh McLennan, where he continued to work until joining Knauff Insurance in 2000. Hal was designated in 2002 as a Certified Insurance Councilor (CIC) and has completed 70% of the CPCU designation. He actively seeks educational opportunities.
